This picture is a board I created for my daughter's school where the parents had to pick different ethnicities and we had to do a project on it. This board details the migration of Puerto Rican's to Hawaii. It shows what a Puerto Rican is, what happened that had brought the Puerto Ricanʻs to Hawaiʻi. I also was able to correlate how Puerto Rican's used Spanglish as a language of resistance instead of speaking English as they were taught in school. And the Hawaiian's used pidgin as a language of resistance, also called ʻōlelo Paʻiai when the missionaries taught them English in school. This board also shows my use of typograhy, by using different font, different sizes, and placement. I used a lot of different pictures to display the colorful culture Puerto Ricanʻs have.

The three photos represent design, and an important element in design, typography. Though it looks as just font, it has to do with a overall foundation of design beneath it all. The placement of font, the size, and different font used is very important in typography. Typography is everywhere we look, on menuʻs , signs, t-shirts, books, next time you look around see how much typography surrounds you. You may be surprised how much you didnʻt realize that its all around you.

    1. Yes typography is interesting in font that seems so boring but within design it really isn't.

  3. First of all, I automatically love this because I am Puerto Rican and that poster board is legit. I didn't know Spanglish was a form of resistance, so thank you for enlightening me. :) The designs in these pictures are crazy cool..I'm kinda into art so to see things made of such creativity really inspires me to keep being artistic in everything I do. What grade did you guys get on the poster board?

    1. Aloha boriqua,
Yes it was interesting to learn that Spanglish was a form of resistance. I also did this presentation in espanol and 'olelo Hawai'i. I love the culture and love how colorful it is. I hope to go to Puerto Rico one day soon. No grade this was one of the requirements the parents of Punana Leo O Wai'anae had to do. Thanks for your comments.

  4. Aloha Jheysa,

I know when I first started learning about typography I was astonished how it was everywhere in this world. Yes makeup can be like design, as it is all art.
